A feature film about Yves Saint Laurent has been released 3 weeks ago in France. Actor Pierre Niney plays the world famous designer. During his long and very successful career Yves worked with three models who had an important influence on his work and life. Let’s have a look at their very individual styles.
VICTOIRE
Victoire Doutreleau is played by the French-Canadin actress Charlotte Le Bon. Victoire was one of the key models for Dior before becoming the YSL woman until the mid-Sixties. She was a dark, imperious and aristocratic looking beauty.
HER LOOK Jet black hair done in an impeccable updo, pale skin, eyes adorned with the perfect cat flick in a black eyeliner, and very bright red lips. Her eyebrows were a drawn in an accented arch. For an 2014 update version of her style start with bright grey shade over the eyelid, then draw the black eyeliner all along the lash line from the inside corner of the eye and finish in a long line up flick. Apply lashings of volume building mascara, paying particular attention to the outer lashes to create a winged effect. Hair wise, Victoire wore her hair in a voluminous macaroon style updo, for a more modern look just go for a simpler french pleat .

BETTY
Betty Catroux is played by Marie de Villepin. Betty met Saint Laurent in 1967 and they became close friends. Her signature look was a long thick fringe and mane of blonde hair. She was tall and androgynous, and resolutely Saint Laurent worth.
HER STYLE
BETTY signature look was very Seventies and very, very blonde. Her square heavy fringe was immaculately cut low and just above her eyes. From pale blonde to platinum blonde her colour changed along the years but always hit the right shade for the right look. Makeup wise she lined her eyes with jet black liner for that rock’n’roll vibe and added lashing of black mascara.

LOULOU
Loulou de La Falaise played by actress Laura Smet, is the daughter of model Maxime Birley who was iconic fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli key model and Count De La Falaise. Loulou was Saint Laurent muse for over 30 years and designed his jewellery and hats collections.
HER STYLE
Loulou wore eastern jewellery and adopted a resolutely free Seventies style. She wore her hair in a mid-length curly bob. She mixed aristocratic class and a certain rock’n’roll “je ne sais quoi“. To achieve her look, a mist of sea salt spray to give texture and volume, a dash of red lipstick, a blue eye-shadow and eye-liner or black and a great BB cream for a healthy glow.

I am looking forward to see the film and hope it will be released in the UK in the next few months. Yves Saint Laurent was an uber talented designer, however he was a tortured soul. He had success, fame and riches but sadly never found happiness. Another feature film about Yves will be released later on this year, he will be played by Gaspard Ulliel. A M x
