Raquel Welch, the ultimate latina…
Jo Raquel Tejada Welch was born in Chicago. Her mother was American and father was from Bolivia. Raquel will follow in the footsteps of Brigitte Bardot, as a new type of woman, sporty, slender and whose incredible body will eclipse her potential rivals. Her path to stardom is classic, waitress, beauty queen ( she will win numerous beauty pageants like Miss Photogenic or Miss Contour !! ), model, television actress… Raquel will start on the big screen with modest roles, playing pretty girls before hitting the big time with “Fantastic Voyage” and “One Million Years B.C” ( 1966 ), a film in which her “incredible fur bikini” will lead her to the status of absolute sex-symbol. Her role, where she battles in her furry costume with dinosaurs ( so Hollywood, so hilarious ! ) is a very big box-office success ! In the 60’s and 70’s Raquel will pursue her very successful acting career but her attempts to be taken seriously for her acting talent by the public and the film business will fail as she will always be remembered as the beautiful Loana. She will interrupt her career at the end of the 70’s at the height of her beauty and after having achieved financial security. Raquel will carry on doing guest star appearances, like for example in “Legally Blonde” in which she plays a hot brunette. Raquel has also built a very successful wig collection business probably due to her film star status. Today Raquel celebrates her 75th birthday, and still a very inspirational beauty !
