According to Orson Welles Eartha Kitt was the most exciting woman in the world. Eartha had a cat like face and used the analogy as much as possible in her role as Catwoman in the old Batman and with her unique voice, she never shrug from her own parody. As the infamous Catwoman and her trademark growl she made an indelible mark on pop culture as she became synonymous with the Television role.
But Miss Kitt was also a fiercely free spirit, invited to the White House as an artist, she spoke against the war in Viet Nam in an extraordinarily violent outburst, expressing her opinion which was to become the powerful majority view. However she paid the price as she was blacklisted for many years before making a stunning comeback in the 80s. If her face had disappeared as an actor, her distinguished voice remained until her last days, and she was still scheduled to sing on American and International stages. She is remembered as a versatile and stylish star with a long varied career in films, television and stage. AM x
