If a woman and only one should be chosen as an example of the model that combines all the ingredients of a movie star, there is no doubt that Elizabeth Taylor would win hands up.
Although born in England, few women are more Hollywood.
As a child actress she grew up within the golden walls of the most scintillating studio of the time, MGM. She conquered her stripes as an actress alongside Lassie and won in “The Grand National” her status of star, from then on she will never know anything else.
She married a number of times ( eight… ), overdid a number of things, alcohol, pills, weight problems, rehabs and her legendary late time keeping…
Her flashy lifestyle and various requirements was summarised in a single aphorism when she said in her high-pitched voice : “In life, there is not just money…. There are also furs and jewellery.”
Jewellery, she had even more than the Duchess of Windsor, who had quite a collection, but this couldn’t be achieved without assets and her two most precious jewels were undoubtedly her world famous purple blue eyes, already unique colour further enhanced by another unusual feature: a double row of eyelashes.
This last feature might have saved Elizabeth Taylor the use of makeup but – as evidenced by her photos – she did nothing by halves.
The star shone so bright that in the 70’s some did not hesitate to describe her as “vulgar” .
To which she replied that “Of course I am ! What were they expecting…” AM x
