Dark and french beauty, Eva Green…

Eva Green, the girl who came out of the darkness…

Eva Green

Daughter of one of the favourite actresses of 70’s French cinema, Marlène Jobert, Eva Green has succeeded in a few movies to create the image of a fatal beauty with jet-black raven hair and very dark smoky eyes enhancing her vivid blue-green ‘regard’.

Who would suspect Eva to be, in fact blonde ? But who could accuse her for choosing the darkest possible hair colour when so many of her peers go from dark to blonde ?

It seems a very wise choice and the French actress has now collected many roles of dark temptresses.

Isn’t she the only Bond Girl who stole 007’s heart ? And when she slips into the sinister world of Tim Burton, she does so as a platinum blonde wicked witch without giving up her almost “Gothic” heavy makeup, yet a terribly glamorous goth.

However Eva has not yet quite earned her stripes as a true star or collaborated in a major advertising campaign for the luxury market ( apart from a short-lived marriage with an edition of the classic Dior Poison perfume ).

Miss Green still has some way to go, it is nonetheless an interesting example of make-up for those who want to redo the look of the great temptresses of the 50’s. She currently stars in Sin City and caused a bit of a stir with the vampy and sexy film poster which was banned and had to be airbrushed to show less breast shape…Sin City Eva Green has stunning green/blue eyes and a pale complexion which works as a perfect base to create classic Hollywood golden age glamour. Her long black hair in often dressed in a vintage wavy soft curls a la ‘Veronica Lake’ or in the Dita Von Teese immaculately groomed style. Her makeup look is always strong, she just doesn’t do ‘natural’ ever ! The eyes are sultry, smoky black, elongated and the lips are almost always dark red, purple or simply defined by a strong classic red. The eyebrows are brushed, shaped and filled in to frame the eyes and give further impact to the final result.

To re-create the look simply apply a even foundation base matching the skin tone, set with a little powder. Then using a very sharp eyebrow pencil to match your eyebrow colour, define using small pencil strokes and create your wanted shape ( use a cotton bud to correct mistakes or soften the colour ). Using a small palette of dark grey, black or almost black brown eyeshadows, create a smoky eye by blending all around the eye, use a dark liner pencil to create a long flick and further enhance the ‘cat eye shape’, finish with lots of black mascara top and bottom ( to avoid clumps, use a tissue to clean the excess mascara on the brush before applying and for a perfect finish, brush the lashes with an old CLEAN mascara brush or and a toothbrush, a child one works better, clean obviously! ) if you haven’t a specific lash brush in your make-up kit. For the lips, using a lip brush, choose a strong shade of red and carefully create the shape. You can use a little highlighter powder or cream in middle of the top lip edge before applying the lipstick to enhance the bow shape. Blot the painted lips with a tissue and re-apply carefully for a lasting result. To avoid red teeth, never a good look… place your finger inside your closed mouth and pull out to remove the lip colour which could go on the teeth. For the hairstyle there are many video tutorials online showing a step-by-step way to create a strong, striking vintage look whatever hair length or colour you have, so just follow the instructions to finish the look and ‘et voila’ you will be ready to vamp away…        AM x
